Van Onselen and Smart Packaging Solutions, more than 20 years of success in the AGF sector
The family company Van Onselen Aubergines has been supplying the market with high-quality fresh vegetables for more than 70 years. This greenhouse horticulture company has been specializing in growing aubergines for 30 years. Sustainability and efficiency are paramount. Van Onselen Aubergines cultivates its aubergines on behalf of Van Nature, its chain partner. Approximately 22 million aubergines are produced annually on a total greenhouse area of 12.5 hectares. Arjan: "All aubergines are packaged from our three locations in Westland and sent to 4 sales partners of Van Nature, who market the aubergines."
Cardboard casks
This requires an enormous supply of packaging. Arjan: "Most of our aubergines are packaged in one-time cardboard packagings. It is important that packagings are just as presentable after distribution as they are when we receive them. The risk of collapsing in cold stores due to moisture must be eliminated. The solid board packaging of Smart Packaging Solutions exceeds the quality requirements established. We can be sure that the boxes will be delivered to the end customer, completely intact."
Logistics efficiency
Arjan is not only pleased with the quality of the packaging, but also with the service that goed along with it. In particular when it comes to logistics. Arjan: "Their cooperation with Faro Transport allows them to respond very flexibly to our demands. We have the guarantee that we will receive the ordered packaging by the next day at the latest, but in most cases it happens faster, even when we ourselves are a little late in placing an order. It has happened that in retrospect we found that we had ordered too little packaging nonetheless. Smart Packaging Solutions managed to provide us on the same day with the number of packagings that we were short. Logistically, anything is possible."
Van Onselen Aubergines' packaging must also meet the quality requirements of a number of customers, such as Lidl Finland, which have established their own barbecue line that requires matching aubergine packaging in terms of shape and appearance. Arjan: "Smart Packaging Solutions was perfectly capable of producing these different types of packaging for us. They have proven themselves to be very solution-oriented. We are very satisfied with the cooperation because of the good service they provide, combined with the high quality of the packaging."
